John Cumming

National Vice-Convener

John is 18 years old and studies politics at the University of Glasgow.

John joined the SNP in 2015 and was soon elected as the Youth Officer in his local branch of Glasgow Kelvin. Since then John has continued to be an active member of the party campaigning in the 2016 Scottish Parliament election, EU Referendum, the 2017 Local Government elections, and the snap General Election.

During his time in the party John has served on the YSI Glasgow Regional Executive Committee as Organiser, the National Executive Committee of the YSI, the Executive Committee of the Glasgow Regional Association of the party and on the Executive Committee of the Glasgow University Scottish Nationalist Association as Organiser. Apart from his role as National Vice-Convener, John is also the Convener of YSI Glasgow.

John is passionate about protecting Scotland’s place in the European Union and the opportunities that this provides to students. As students, John believes that we should be at the forefront of the campaign against Brexit to protect the opportunities provided to us by the EU.

In his role as National Vice-Convener, John is keen to help the SNP Students continue to develop exciting policy ideas so that we can continue to influence the vision and direction of the SNP. John has played a significant role in the creation, development and eventual implementation of policies from the YSI and his local branch. He has also stood as a candidate for the Standing Orders and Agenda Committee of the party on two occasions to help ensure that the policies which the SNP champions reflect the views of our younger members. In the years to come, he wants the SNP Students to be a leading voice in the creation of policies which reflect our vision of an independent Scotland.

John is also looking forward to meeting with and talking to individual members of the SNP Students in universities across Scotland to help them find a role to play in the campaign for independence, a campaign for a better future.
