Michael was brought up in Milngavie and currently attends the University of the West of Scotland as a 3rd year undergrad of his BA Business(Honours) Degree; having previously graduated from City of Glasgow College with a HNC in business. He currently works as a security steward in stadia, music festivals and sporting events. He also volunteers as an Explorer Leader to his local unit and has served on the District Governance Committee.
Michael has served in various national roles in SNP Students including Colleges Officer and Disability Officer before becoming National Secretary, and then finally, Convener. In these roles Michael has been prolific in pushing internal party policy at national conference and council each year. Railway reform, mosquito devices, equal civil partnerships, citizenship and refugee reform are some of the issues that have changed as a result of Michaels’ internal campaigning. He has continued to foster strong personal and professional interests in the areas of business, the NHS and student welfare.
As well as campaigning internally, Michael campaigns extensively for independence and the SNP, having participated in televised and radio debates since before joining the party in the 2014 surge. He first got involved campaigning in school, through debates, leafleting and canvassing the local area. Following participating in the BBCs’ “Big Debate” with Nicola Sturgeon and Patrick Harvie Michael was hooked on politics and trying to make Scotland a better place.
In his spare time Michael enjoys cycling, gaming, rock climbing and hillwalking.
